The Words, Larry Correa, and Elaine Scott

So, spent my weekend disoriented and sick while taking care of my parents loveable but obnoxious puppies. Bit of an experience that, being woken up before the crack of dawn by a dog who wants nothing more than to be the center of your universe while your head feels like it's going to implode and your throat like you swallowed sandpaper. BUT! I'm better now and glad they're back safe and sound.

Week's been amazingly busy but also productive and enjoyable. Aside from Monday, but those don't count. Last night I went with the Houston Writers Guild to a preshowing of The Words, and it was awesome. Even if the movie had been horrible (it wasn't!) the entire experience would have made up for it, with so many people from the guild, and even the Romance Writers of America there. A big thanks to CBS for the reserved seating and free passes!

About the movie itself, I only have two complaints. It felt longer than it was, dragging at times, and the male actor's didn't hold up to the female. The music was amazing, and the plot hits you like a punch in the gut, especially for a startup writer like myself. This is not a feel good movie, but it makes you think (which means it'll probably get terrible reviews here in America). Definitely worth seeing!

In other news, Larry Corea's new book Monster Hunter: Legion, came out yesterday and I cannot wait for the weekend so I can pick it up from Barnes and Nobles. Need to add him (and a large number of other people) to my list of favorite authors on my website.

Lastly, I just got home from Lunch with childrens book writer, Elaine Scott. Very nice woman and so helpful! Let me ask all my questions and gave more than satisfactory answers to each, elaborating and giving great advice on the whole. Will definitely be taking some of her suggestions to heart, and making use of some of the ideas she put to me. She's got two projects right around the bend, and is furiously working on them. Her other work is also worth a look at, even if you're not a child.
