Pacific Rim
Giant Monsters VS Giant Robots, what’s not to love? Unless
of course you’re not a fan of action movies, in which case absolutely do not go
see this one. Also, if you’re looking for something deep and meaningful with an
unexpected and stimulating plot and an intriguing main character, then this one
isn’t for you either. Actually the most intriguing thing about the main
character is that after surviving a nuclear explosion he somehow manages to
have perfect hair. If
you want to sit back, turn off most of your brain while you eat popcorn and
watch some amazing actions scenes, gorgeous special effects and really really
badass machines and monsters, then hop onboard.
Props for a diverse cast, though nobody broke any molds and
double props for making the scientist guys relevant and interesting. In fact,
barring the epic fight scenes, Burn Gorman and Charlie Day stole the show, and
I almost wish they’d had these guys as the main characters piloting a Jaeger. Very
few of the pilots actually saw anything resembling development or exploration,
which was a shame because each of them had more flavor than vanilla Riley.
At least I think the main character’s name was Riley, frankly he was so boring
compared to everyone else I can’t remember. And I can’t help but think that if they’d
combined his character with “Daddy’s Boy”, another character whose name I can’t
remember to save my life, he would’ve been a lot more interesting. Absolutely
can’t complain though, I got exactly what I paid for and expected.
On the whole I came away from this movie with a huge grin
plastered to my face and laughing at Ron Perlman’s performance after some of
the credits had rolled by (definitely stay, it’s funny enough to wait five
minutes for!) ALSO, as a monster lover, the kaiju were FREAKING AWESOME!
