Online Fiction

I’ve been making an effort to pay closer attention to my favorite author’s websites lately in an effort to understand both their platform building techniques, and see how I can improve my own site. So far the exploration has been most enjoyable, because let’s face it, I’m poking around some really cool people’s websites!

BUT! I only just discovered that around the same time I released the first installment of Romance of the Psychic Dinosaur, Illona Andrews released their (Illona Andrews is the pen name of a husband/wife writing team) “free fiction” serial online, The Inkeeper Chronicles. Read it. Loved it! But just as important, it’s very similar to what I’m trying to do with RotPD. Even more reassuring, is that I stumbled upon Seanan McGuire’s Velma Vs. series online, which was started in 2008. Again, very similar to what I’m hoping to do and I’m looking forward to reading through these stories as thus far I’ve loved everything McGuire’s produced.

Both cases are not only fun discoveries, but reassurances that I’m on the right road. Both are far more professionally handled than mine, and I’ll be reexamining their websites for ideas on how to better display and produce my own online serial and will be in touch with my webmaster about this soon.
